The Physics of Achievement: Why Execution is a Mathematical Formula

Achievement isn't magic; it's physics. Learn how to use the momentum formula (p=mv) to calculate your execution velocity and reach high-stakes goals faster.

We tend to treat success as a mysterious blend of luck, talent, and "grind." We use words like inspiration or vision to describe why some people ship products while others just think about them.

But if you look closely at high-performers, achievement looks less like magic and more like high-school physics. Specifically, it follows the laws of Momentum.

In physics, momentum is calculated as p = mv (momentum equals mass times velocity). In the realm of execution, this formula is the difference between a stalled project and a market-leading product.

What is Execution Momentum?

Execution Momentum is the biological and structural force that carries a project toward completion despite friction and setbacks. It is calculated by multiplying your 'Goal Mass' (the complexity and high-stakes nature of your intent) by your 'Execution Velocity' (the rate of verified, binary daily actions). To maintain momentum, you must increase velocity whenever goal mass increases, or the entire trajectory will collapse into inertia.

The "Mass" of Your Ambition

Most people fail because they try to move a mountain with the velocity of a snail.

Your "Goal Mass" is the inherent difficulty of what you're trying to do. "Launch a SaaS" has a higher mass than "Write a blog post." The mistake we make is keeping the mass high while our velocity is intermittent.

If you work on your high-mass goal only once a week, you aren't building momentum—you’re just pushing against a brick wall. The mass stays the same, but because your velocity is near zero, your total momentum is zero. This is why big dreams often feel so heavy they become paralyzing.

Founder's Note: I spent years trying to move "Heavy" goals with "Light" systems. I’d try to build a complex AI architecture using a simple to-do list. It didn't work. I felt like I was working hard, but the "Mass" was simply too great for my disorganized velocity. I had to learn that you don't solve heavy problems with more effort; you solve them with higher frequency.

Increasing Your Execution Velocity

To move a high-mass goal, you have three options:

  1. Reduce the Mass: (Wait, don't do this. Keep your big dreams.)
  2. Increase the Force: (This leads to burnout. Willpower is finite.)
  3. Increase Velocity: This is the only sustainable path.

Velocity in execution isn't about being "busy." It’s about Directional Speed. It is the rate at which you turn high-stakes intentions into completed, verified actions.

If you want to triple your achievement rate, you don't need a longer workday. You need a higher frequency of "Binary Wins." Instead of one massive "Work Day" on Saturday, you need six 45-minute "Binary Quests" throughout the week. Higher frequency creates a biological "Momentum Loop" where the brain begins to crave the next win.
